KDE Environment Configuring in Kali Linux

KDE is an international free software community developing Free and Open-Source software. The Plasma Desktop, KDE Frameworks is some of the most popular projects of KDE. It comes as a default desktop environment for a lot of Linux Distributions. It was founded in October 14, 1996 by Matthias Ettrich.




To configure the KDE environment follow the given steps :

1. We need to update as we did the system update in our previous post when we are configuring the XfceMate and LXDE desktop environment in Kali Linux. So open a Terminal window and type then following command.

apt-get update

2. To install KDE in Kali Linux we need to use the following command :


apt-get install kali-defaults kali-root-login desktop-base kde-plasma-desktop

3. Type y when it asks for confirmation on additional space requirements.

4. Two pop up window may open you need to click OK on both.

5. When the installation is complete we open a Terminal window and type the following command :


update-alternatives --config x-session-manager
   This screenshot shows the output for the preceding command :


6. We need to choose the option startkde ( in our case 2 ) and press Enter.

7. Restart the computer of log out and log in agin to see the KDE desktop environment.

How to Uninstall

1. To uninstall KDE environment run following command in terminal

apt-get remove kde-plasma-desktop

2. KDE Desktop Environment is removed from your Computer.

apt-get install kali-defaults kali-root-login desktop-base kde-plasma-netbook

apt-get install kali-defaults kali-root-login desktop-base kde-full
