Mate Environment Configuring in Kali Linux

The MATE Desktop Environment is the continuation of GNOME 2. It provides an intuitive and attractive desktop environment using traditional metaphors for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. It was First released in 2011.



How To Configure

To configure the Mate desktop environment follow given staps :

1. First of all we need to update our system by typing following command in terminal window

    apt-get update


2. Then we need to install the Mate environment by using this command :

    apt-get install desktop-base mate-desktop-environment


3. Type y when it asks for confirmation on additional space requirements.

4. After installation is complete we need to set Mate desktop environment as our default environment.        We will use following command 
update-alternatives --config x-session-manager

 5. Choose the option /usr/bin/mate-session (in our case 2) and press the Enter key.

6. Restart the machine to see the Mate Desktop Environment.


How to Uninstall

1. To uninstall Mate environment run following command in terminal

apt-get remove desktop-base mate-desktop-environment

 2. Mate Desktop environment is removed from your Computer.
