Kali Linux For Windows
Kali Linux is the upgraded version of BackTrack Linux. It was first raised in 2012 with a total new architecture. This Debian-based Linux distribution with over 600 tools specialized for penetration testing and digital forensics. It is maintained and funded by Offensive Security Ltd and the core developers are Mati Aharoni, Devon Kearns, and Raphael Hertzog.
Kali 2.0 was introduced in 2016 with lots of new updates and new desktop environments such as KDE, Mate, LXDE and Xfce builds.
Hence Kali is already pre-loaded with tons of awesome tools and utilities to help penetration testers, In this blog we will primarily cover some tweaks tat can be used to perform better pentesting experience for the users.
Configuring Kali Linux
We are going to use the official Kali Linux ISO provided by Offensive Security and then we change the desktop environment of Kali Linux such as Mate, Xfce, LXDE, and KDE desktops.
Here we are installing Kali Linux for Windows System this is for starters if you are an expert then you can use Kali as Bootable USB or primary OS or you can install it in dual boot.
To install it on windows we need to configure Kali in a virtual machine such as VMware, VirtualBox etc. A pre-build image of the Kali LInux can be downloaded from https://www.offensive-security.com/kali-linux-vmware-virtualbox-image-download/
This is pre-built image you don't need to thinking about the installation. Think it is a ready to go solution.
Double-click on the downloaded virtual machine image, it should open with VirtualBox:
Now we need to click in Import.
Now Start the Virtual machine and enter username root and the the default password toor
Look, Kali Linux is in front of you with the GNOME desktop environment.
